Leather Jacket Care

I don’t remember exactly how old my black leather jacket is; I can only tell you that I got it before my son was born, so it is at least 12 years old, but you can’t tell by looking at it.  That’s because I provide the best leather jacket care possible for this special garment that was given to me by my in-laws.

Suede and leather garments, purses, and shoes can provide many years of wear, while still looking good, as long as you leave their care to a professional, and that’s where Shores comes in.  Brian and his staff have oodles and gobs of experience when it comes to caring for suede and leather items, plus we have great partnerships with the folks at both Arrow Fabricare Services and Margaret’s for any items that might require extra special attention.

If you drop off a suede or leather item at one our locations, it will be treated with tender loving care, will be ready when promised, and will be in top-notch shape.  And when you get it home, here’s what you need to do to keep it that way:

  • If you spill something on your suede or leather item, blot dry with a dry, clean, white cloth.  If the liquid is repelled, then use a clean, damp sponge to gently wipe it clean.  If the liquid is absorbed, avoid any type of stain removal, and take it to a professional as soon as possible.
  • Store your garment, purse, or shoes in a cool, ventilated place; never store in a hot, humid environment.
  • Never store leather items in plastic; instead place them in a cloth bag.
  • Hang jackets and coats on a sturdy, wooden, broad-shouldered hanger to help maintain proper shape.
  • Never put your item away wet; let it completely air dry first.
  • Never treat spots with any sort of fabric cleaner or spotting agent.

Shores is here to help with all your garment care needs.  Follow the links for more information about caring for suede and leather items, and feel free to stop by or contact us if you have any garment or fabric related questions.
